I had the idea for Fairways back in April, while I was golfing with Frank (the President) of Ballyliffin Golf Club on the north coast of Ireland. He told me that while lots of kids attend their summer program, some don't continue golfing because their families can’t afford it.
I found that unacceptable and decided to change it.
Within a week I had a co-founder (Fairways’ COO, Jeremy White) and a Board of Directors. Within two weeks we were implementing a constitution. Within three weeks Jeremy was registering the non-profit in Australia, and by week four we had sponsored our first kids in Canada.
What better way to celebrate than with a golf day at an amazing club!
Our event will be a four ball Ambrose (Scramble) with wonderful prizes to be won and the chance to bid on some fantastic items in a small, post-golf auction. The highlight of the auction lots is a St. Andrews Open Championship flag signed by past winners, Tom Watson, Sandy Lyle, Mark O’Meara, Tom Lehman and John Daly, which was very kindly donated by Gordon Moir at St Andrews.
To date Fairways have sponsored ten juniors in Canada, five in India, one in Nepal and we will be sponsoring underprivileged juniors in Australia before we head to Bolivia to help set up a sustainable junior golf clinic.
By paying for membership, lessons and range access for disadvantaged kids, we are helping to develop golf at the grassroots while supporting golf businesses and professionals.
Come tee it up with us at Pymble Golf Club and help to support junior golf!
